This weeks recipe - Grilled Marinated Porkchops

This is a new recipe I came up with a couple of weeks ago, so I'll share it first. My family seems to love them.

ingredients:

6 boneless pork chops ( i cut mine from a pork tenderloin about an inch thick each)

garlic powder - approx 3 teaspoons
season salt - approx 2 teaspoons
rosemary - approx 1 teaspoons
olive oil - 1/2 cup
pepper - 7 to 10 good twist on your pepper grinder
**These are round about measurements, I just eyeball them and never really get exact!!!!

In a bowl, mix the garlic, season salt, rosemary and pepper in with the olive oil and stir well. Place the chops in a large zip-lock bag along with the marinade and coat well. These need to sit for no less than a hour, but longer is really better. Go for at least 2 to 3 hours if possible.

After they marinade, remove and grill on medium heat until done. Watch for flare ups, since the marinade will drip down into the heat and flames. They generally take about 6 to 8 minutes per side, but it reallly depends on your grill.

Gadget of the Week

The item this week isn't a gadget, as much as it is an essential: knives.

Alright, I know, what kind of gadget is this. Well, this is one the most, if not the most, important gadget you will own in your kitchen. As you can see, we have quite the collection here. At last count, there was 40 total knives. I own a set of Hinkle knives, a couple of Wusthof knives, and several other assorted brands.
The most obvious need of a knife is cutting, but with so many speciality knives out today, they provide many different needs in your kitchen
There are cutting, paring, peeling, fillet and chopping knives just to mention a few. The most important thing I ever learned was always keep a knife sharpened. The old tale about a dull knife is true. They are the very ones you will hurt and cut yourself with. A good investment to go along with your knife set is a good knife sharpener. Then, you will always have a sharp knife to do whatever task you need.

Hello cyber world

This is my first attempt at blogging, so bear with me and maybe we all will learn something here.
I am a self taught cook, having grown up in a family of eight, me being the youngest. I got to spend alot of time in the kitchen with my mother learning all her recipes. Today, I still use several of them, and along the way, I have made several of my own.
Since my wife is the family blogger, my visits here will be more of a weekly thing where I will share a recipe and also feature a gadget of the week. I think we own about 90% of all the gadgets in the pampered chef catalog.
Please feel free to comment on anything you see on here. Leave a recipe if you like, or give another use for the gadget I show, or just stop and say hello.
